Air Force Officers Drag Speaker Away
for Planning to say “God” in Speech!
U.S. Air Force officers at Travis Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA, physically dragged away respected veteran Oscar Rodriguez for planning to say the word "God" in speech. The prohibited language in Rodriguez’ short, famous presentation includes:
“God bless our flag.
God bless our troops.
God bless America.”
Retiring veteran Chuck Roberson invited Mr. Rodriguez to give the speech. It was to occur during the solemn flag-folding portion of Roberson’s private retirement ceremony on the base.
Video of the ceremony shows Rodriguez surrounded by airmen under orders of Lt. Col. Michael Sovitsky, who unlawfully prohibited the presentation due to the word "God." As Mr. Rodriguez begins his speech, several airmen forcefully drag him away. He was then thrown off the base.
Mr. Rodriguez is a retired 33-year Air Force veteran. He has given his 340-word speech on the flag over 100 times. A member of Congress has commended the speech, and Rodriguez has been praised for his military service on the floor of the U.S. Senate.
Kelly Shackelford, First Liberty President & CEO, said, “The military broke the law and abused its power. This is religious discrimination. It has to stop.”
